There are currently a small number of adherence rating scales available however they have poor validity due to patients not wanting to disclose tend to be dishonest when self reporting their adherence to prescribed medication or are overtly complex and therefore obtain a poor response rate. The PhD would consist of an initial literature review and development of a detailed understanding of patient psychology and health beliefs. A questionnaire would be developed via a number of stages and then validated in one patient group. From undertaking this PhD, you will develop clinical knowledge within the one clinical area, an understanding of patient health related behaviour, the measurement and importance of adherence and statistical skills.

Very informing post. Just discovered an excellent site with UK government documents on it – http://www.officialdocumentwatch.com is a really well made site and them seem to be very up to date – always posting the latest UK government documents released to the public. Worth a look.
