Imperial ESRC PhD Scholarship | Reproductive History In Relation To Survival Using EPIC Data
The Division has one 3-year ESRC Scholarship for a candidate who wishes to join a PhD program in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Imperial College London. The selected candidate will undertake a project within the ESRC remit of ‘social statistics, research methods and computing’ which is defined at: http://www.esrcsocietytoday.ac.uk/ESRCInfoCentre/opportunities/postgraduate/fundingopportunities/

The selected candidate is specifically requested to apply for the approval of the Scholarship that focuses on reproductive history in relation to survival. If approved we anticipate that the studentship will start in January 2010. Changes in reproductive history over time, its determinants and effects on survival will also be evaluated. Data from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC), a large study of nutritional, metabolic, genetic, lifestyle factors and health will be used. About half a million men and women were recruited in ten European countries and have been followed for survival, cancer incidence, diabetes, ischemic heart diseases and other events for seven years on average.

Candidates should have completed an ESRC recognised master of science (MSc) or master in Public Health (MPH) course. The studentship includes full payment of tuition fees and an enhanced stipend of £17,000. Owing to funding restrictions these studentships are open to UK nationals or EU nationals, who have lived in the UK for at least three years immediately preceding the date of the award.
